A year ago, I was invited to sit for a group of professional portrait painters who rendezvous monthly at Putney, Vermont. Known as The Putney Painters, the collective is an invitational group led by renowned master painters Richard Schmid and his wife Nancy Guzik. It was explained the group seldom has a chance to paint African Americans whose statewide numbers in Vermont are among the lowest in the nation.
I sat for the group on Saturday, March 28, 2009 the Village Arts of Putney Barn in Putney, Vermont. These painters were gracious, allowing me periodic breaks from the couch where I posed for more than five hours. It was a rare pleasure. This two-minute film synthesizes what for me was an amazing experience.
