@SuperBogeys Japanese Maples and other maple trees do 'bleed' when pruned in late winter or early spring before the leaves have emerged, but university research has shown that 'bleeding' (sap dripping) does not harm the tree. We checked back on this Japanese Maple last year, 15 months after it had been pruned, and it was doing great!
