Teaching Ethel Merman to Sing (I Got Rhythm)

This clip is from one of my favorite episodes of the Lucy Show, season two, when Ethel Merman was guest starring, pretending to be Agnes Schmidlapp, wanting to rent a house in town. Lucy promised the boys that she was a close friend of Ethels, and would get her to appear at their scout talent show. Lucy ran into "Agnes" at the bank, and convinced her to "pretend" to be Ethel Merman, and then proceeded to teach her how to sing "Like the Merm". Well, Ethel got sick of the act, as this clip proves. :P I do not own this video, just showing it for fans like myself :)

Teaching Ethel to sing is like trying to teach Meryl Streep or Marlon Brando how to act! She doesn't need lessons nor did she ever take them in her life.

I love her face from the beginning to 0:06. She's like "WTH?! This is my song!"

Great clip, thanks for posting. When I was a kid they'd play Lucy re-runs early in the morning, and I clearly remember this episode. I had no idea what an Ethel Merman was before then. I decided on a whim to see if youtube had it -- of course they did, youtube has EVERYTHING.

The song is "I Got Rhythm" (1930), music by George Gershwin, lyrics by Ira Gershwin, from the Broadway musical _Girl Crazy_; it is not "I've Got Rhythm."
