hahahahahaha...captain karl sandstrom, product manager,evinrude...where was yamaha's rep????same hp but evinrude was over twice the speed???ummmm BULLSHIT...can you smell it???do you think result would have been the same if yamaha's rep was there???i think not...for a start the yamaha would not have been de-tuned...with the wrong prop at 1/2 throttle...think about it same hp less than half the speed...this has got to be the most rigged test i have ever seen...lol...lol...lol...lol..
.lol...lol -
Yeah, why doesn't they do with an Yamaha 2 strokes???

2-stokes are lighter, faster, and have more torque. Thats common language.

As an experience capt., i can tell you that the 225 Yamaha is a fantastic engine, and aside from the exhaust corrosion problems i have seen them with over 2500 hours running like new. Im yet to see a Evinrude go past 850. They compared Yamahas 225 (which is known not to put out manuf. posted hp) which has about 208 hp at the prob, against a 225 evinrude... If u wanted to compare apples to apples try doing it against an opti 225

The four stroke suffers from its lower torque in this comparison. 2 strokes have lower optimum speeds (I believe this is because too fast and there is no time for scavenging in the absence of a tuned exhaust system) than 4 strokes, so they have more torque to generate the same power.
To make the comparison fair, the 4 stroke should have had an appropriate (lower ratio) gearbox.

Wow... this post is two years old and still getting comments! I'm wondering how the two brands compare today. As I remember, the Evinrudes were a lot louder.

@crestlinersuperhawk excellent observation, I'd like to see that comparison too.

nope ... I've seen three other tests similar to this -- all conducted by independent researchers -- all with similar results. You're laughing -- but you're laughing at Yamaha!

We've heard complaints about the Tight Squeeze having TWO of these 225 HP Evinrude E-TECs ... Aside from being used by Sea-Tow and the Coast Guard, this video speaks for itself. Any questions?
