If all religious folk were like you, then American would be a very different place. I myself am an atheist living in the American south. I am right in the middle of the Bible-belt. I am a secularist, which means I say let people believe whatever they want as long as it stays peaceful and semi-sane, but I do have a huge problem with the discrimination of other religions, homosexuals, and other groups by Christians. Also their fear of things like Harry Potter. It's just ridiculous.

To be serious, for the vast majority of the English it's more of a running joke to poke fun at the French. Very few people really have anything against the French - it has just become one of those things you trot out to get a laugh.

Oh course there are always the real xenophobes, but such people hate everyone and the French are just one of the multitude of people they do not like.

Everyone hates what their leaders do from time to time - you just have to wait for better ones to come along...
