The dusty, barren ground of Umm Salal, about 20 kilometers, outside Qatar's capital, makes an unlikely spot for a bumper harvest.

On a 40-hectare (99 acres) patch -- noticeable for being ringed by trees where there's otherwise little vegetation within eyeshot -- zucchinis, iceberg lettuce and sweet corn are some of the produce being picked from the land.

    This would be a tremendous Blessing to the ppl. Food cost gone up 30% That's crazy. I wouldn't want to import my food any way. Don't give me a fish teach me how to fish.
