Right after I got off this elevator, I came REAL CLOSE to being caught... phew.

A tip: How to operate manual doors while holding a camera:
Lift the door in the center and push up, then when the door is halfway up, move your hand and push it the rest of the way. (Reverse the process for closing)
With vertical bi-parting doors, Lift the upper door about halfway then push the lower door with your foot. For closing, pull the straps.
On both, try to hold the camera still...
@TheTheo58 Nope, it's overhead. The maintenance guy told me that. The motor is supported by huge steel beams.

In looking at both videos especially the top of the shaft, I think this elevator might be a basement traction machine or an older winding drum machine. Which was common in the early 20th century. As I can see the sheave, at the top with the hoist ropes. With an overhead traction machine there would be solid flooring at the top, other than the cutouts for the cables.
