A Strategy of Peace

Excerpts of President John F. Kennedy's Commencement Address at the American University in Washington, DC, on June 10, 1963.

He spoke these words to confront the challenges to peace at the height of the Cold War, but it is no less applicable today. A rational, clear-eyed vision is required to secure a lasting peace. There is a reasonable strategy between peace at any price and a perpetual state of war.

I saw a series of books at Barnes and Noble about 3 yrs ago, each on a President and a compilation of his speeches. THIS June 1963 speech at AU was NOT in the book on Kennedy's speeches. Maddening. It's the best speech he ever gave, and he was gone 5 months later. Even better than his inaugural IMO.

Very true. It's sad that when you hear speeches like this and then as you say, when his policies (or the policies of his administration) did exactly the opposite.

If only the current administration will use this as a model of what their policy should encompass, then we would be much better off...
