Is my country such a controversial topic that it constantly triggers ridiculous debates under Youtube videos?

    Man, we must be important.

cont'd... they wanted a more English sounding name for their new capital for Upper Canada so despite protests changed its name to York in 1794 but by the early 1800s there were already campaigns to change its name back to the original Toronto but didn't officially happen until Toronto was incorporated as a city in 1834 to give it the powers needed to deal with an outbreak of a serious illness that killed thousands. St James Park was once a crowded cemetery from that period.

It turns out that was based on a faulty translation, "Toronto" actually means "place where trees grow in water". First nations people used to plant trees in some rivers to help them set up traps for catching fish. But the French mistakenly believed it meant "meeting place" & as a result starting naming many places in the areas they once controlled Toronto. The original French name for what is now Toronto was "Fort Rouille" which they changed to "Fort Toronto". When the British took over, cont'd

But yes it is true that if whatever ails you isn't life threatening you will have to wait for surgery and those waits are often longer than they should be. Having to wait causes people to suffer pain or limited movement or vision for longer than they should. But those wait lists exist solely because there is no wait for tests or surgery for the most life threatening conditions. Plus the ability to get primary care whenever needed means problems are often caught earlier before becoming serious.

My uncle had heart surgery within a couple hours of arriving at an ER. Thanks to universal healthcare many people don't get very sick to start with. I had a mild but odd pain in my gut so saw a Dr, less than 24 hours later I was being discharged from hospital after having my appendix removed since it was very enlarged. If I had to pay I wouldn't have gone till it was much more painful/potentially deadly from bursting. Its a social good having the lives of the wealthiest & poorest equally valued

Not at all, life saving surgeries happen very fast, but yes there is a wait for non-critical or elective surgeries, my brother had to wait about a year or so to get his knee surgery for damaged cartilege, when my Mom was very ill with something unknown she got a CAT scan within 3 days during which a couple of life threatening problems were detected requiring two separate surgeries, the first was within one week then after a 2 week recovery period she was operated on again, she's fine now.

When did the comment section degrade into a debate about healthcare?

How about just putting some links in the comments and let the articles do the talking? Opinions are unnecessary.

    Example: **. wikipedia .***/ ****/ Universal_ healthcare

Or type it in the search engine. READ.
