On a cool November day, we take a trip on the MBTA Red Line out to Ashmont for a ride on the old PCC cars. These trolleys were built in the mid 1940's by Pullman-Standard and have been refurbished and repainted into the Boston Street Railway orange. They run on the 2.6 mile Mattapan-Ashmont "High Speed" line. As you can see, it does not go any faster than the regular subway if not slower. Enjoy as we watch car 3254 come in, then we'll take a ride down the line, watch the car turn around and then head back.

Thanks for watching!

  • Just beautiful!

  • Thanks for the comment!

  • The "High Speed Line" thing is a misnomer, its neither high speed nor a line. The tracks don't have any high speed trains run on them and aren't on a dedicated right of way.

You have balls going down to Mattapan. Between the crazy people and angry T employees, you couldn't pay me to film down there.

  • Well, if you go there, you'll see it's not that bad. Theres police at both stations and (one of which I met, but he was pretty nice and let me film) I only saw two crazy people this time on the ride back, talking about who was in for what, who killed who... But anyway It's fine down there and well worth a ride.

  • It's almost kinda sad to see how the trolley just rolled through the station at 1:20 because nobody was there.

  • the old arborway rocky riding trolleys

  • I live at the curve of the Ashmont platform. It is SO ANNOYING

  • PCC's are awesome, but I wish Boeings could run on the line with them *not replace them*

  • I believe some place in Wisconsin, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Boston are the last places to run PCCs... if not the real thing at least modernized ones...

  • Used to ride this line almost every day, for more than 30 years. Still love it. Thanks for posting this.

Polish tram (streetcar in american english) Konstal 105Na (or 805Na for 1000mm gauge) is a car build like a PPC streetcar. It have (for example) a accelerator.

  • Nice, thanks, for filming this. Boy, the PC's sure didn't look like this when I used to ride them on the Green Line!!! Stil, a lot of great memories though. I can remember when the double ended ex-Dallas PCC cars ran on the Mattapan line.

  • It's looks like a polish konstal 105Na

  • Enjoyed the ride. There PCC cars use to run from Park St to Arborway in the mid 1980s.
