Generation Y, Generation Z, Millennials, the Screenagers......whatever you call modern day youth are changing. Some children are now believed to spend anything up to ten hours a day in front of a screen, with some saying that they cannot live without the Internet. By the time the youth of today are adults they will have consumed about 10,000 on-line hours each. And this screen time is without much adult intervention; in a world they have created alone, a largely un-moderated world.

Growing up with modern technology has changed the way in which our children interact, think and socialize, because it has changed the way their brains work. The access our children have to information nowadays is unprecedented. Their on-line worlds offer them unique opportunities to connect, create and form communities.

Children of today have the ability to influence as never before.

But how is this changing family life and family values? In this video series youth expert Sarah Newton will share with yoiu her thoughts and ideas around the next generation.

  • Hi no problem, The 25 years is from research by Howe and Strauss from their book Generations. They went back in time to come to the conclusion and it is just that a conclusion. A great book they have is called The Third Turning which explains it really well. It is about the shift in the generations as they move up the scale and take a different place in society which causes changes, Far too complicated to explain in a comment :-) I like this as it makes sense to me and is what I see not exact

  • what i would like to know what is your opinion on the time scale of this phenomenon. and what factors does it depend on? technology perhaps? or maybe other social phenomena. sorry about 2 messages but i ran out of room. :)

  • it would seem to me that this is more of a new generational model, im sure that you have more proof of the existence of these different generational ideals. but what i would like to know is how you came up with the time scale. in 25 years people go through school, enter the workforce and many have children. this is enough time for people to develop and solidify their social norms. but it seems like it wasn't always this way. in the past it took more time. in the future it will probably be less.
