Benedict XVI. Civil service, a path to peace

Pope Benedict XVI said civil service, the altenative to military service that many young people choose to serve, points society in the direction of new path towards peace, in line with the second Vatican Council. He conveyed this message during his audience to seven thousand young volunteers who perform civil service in Italy. The Pope exhorted them to always be instruments of peace. He urged them to reject egoism, injustice, indifference and hatred and to patiently and perseveringly build and spread a culture of justice, equality, freedom, reconciliation, and forgiveness.
