Animation creation in iClone4 with lip-sync editing for more precise mouth shapes in CrazyTalk. Complete project took about 1 day. Looking for music that is royalty-free and that fits is usually what I do b/c scoring an original piece just adds way too much time to the process. Luckily, there are loads of resources for music that is legal and also let's you promote original musicians in your work. I like www.incomptech.com and so far Kevin MacLeod has been secretly scoring my movies without knowing it. Really, this guy's work just fits most of my stuff. So, I credit him in the movie and enjoy his soundscapes within my movies. The iClone 4 facial animation is again astouding from the creative-end. As the 3D Artist you really have digital puppet control, in real-time. This time I enhanced the lip-synch, which is auto generated when you record or import audio for the voiceover. I used CrazyTalk 6 PRO to enhance the mouth shapes that iClone automatically created from my audio. You can 'Launch' CrazyTalk directly from iClone4's facial animation Modify panel. Then, edit the mouth shape key frames or remove auto-assigned shapes to get the best lip-synch performance. Sounds tricky, but when you know what you are going after in your project it's just like a wrench; crank it and you'll get what you're after. I took a bit more time with this project and also used the new iClone4 male actor, Dylan's bodystyle. The motion is really nice on these new avatars as this is the best performance yet with skin weighting and motion relationship. The shot where Buk raises his arms and sways side to side would look waaay different if I was using a G1 avatar. These are your best actor templates yet. I can't wait to see what you make with this amazing tool!

Got a question. How did you create the man? All in iclone? I want to create a guy but make his face look like Casey Kasem and have him animated. But I'd like to use him close up (head/shoulders) too. I wonder if you can get good enough details in iclone or if I'd need to just use CT6 for the close up stuff. ?
@TruthSurge The actor was fully created in iClone4. I used a base head and changed the face shape. One strong point with iClone is that with a good photo to begin with, you can get good characters. So if you have a good forward facing and well lit image of Kasem, you'd be headed in the right direction. Thanks!
You know, I think I'm going to sculpt the head in zbrush using front/side pics of Kasem as a guide then exaggerate it to cartoonize it some then render it and polish it up in PS then just use CT6 w/green screen background and import into Vegas to merge him with a background. I'll then later figure out how to put THAT head onto a body in iclone for a real 3D effect. I assume I can import a mesh into iclone so I'll prob merge that mesh w/body in zbrush, import to iclone then. ? hahah
What's with the flashing neck and weird shadows popping in and out? Is this what I can expect from iclone 4? Doesn't look too good to have weird lights suddenly happening on his neck like that. What about CT6? These are made by the same company so why wouldn't they put the same lip sync functionality in both? I'm confused.
@TruthSurge Turning on self-casting shadow can ease this. Good eye. iClone has lots of CrazyTalks features built-in. The ability to record audio or import an mp3 or wav is there. iClone will then turn it into auto lip-sync. You can also open that voice file or audio in CrazyTalk to have deep level access to exact lip shapes. iClone can do the job alone, but CrazyTalk gives a nice polish.
Thanks Cathy. I decided to take a bit more time and use CrazyTalk 6 to enhance the mouth shapes. Then, I brought the voiceover back into iClone after I fine-tuned the lip-synch. Using CrazyTalk6 to tidy up your mouth shapes that are auto-generated when you import or record your original audio is a big help.
