In 1903,Grieg recorded nine sides for G&T while in Paris. These are rare and primitive recordings. Here, Grieg plays an abridged version of the Finale from his Piano Sonata in E minor.Rec. May,1903 G&T matrix 2146f.

  • @SoyAussie Gramophone and Typewriter company.

  • This is beautiful, an amazing master musician at his best. I can imagine grieg actually playing this infront of me when i listen to this

  • what is G&T ?

  • This is great music for silent movies. You can just imagine a stealthy chase scene and, at the end, the hero is united with the heroine, and they get together for a dramatic reunion clinch. I don't know much about classical music, but I have this on an old LP of historic piano recordings and always thought this piece would be a perfect film accompaniment.

  • This is invaluable, but in most of these acoustic recordings, Grieg felt compelled to play more forte and faster than usual because of the limitations of the process. I actually think his piano-roll recordings are truer. Grieg was a superb pianist even for his time and remains the best interpreter of his own music despite health and injury. (Remember, years earlier one of his hands was run over and crushed by the iron-rimmed wheel of a heavy wagon. He never fully recovered. Amazing.)

  • Yeah or you can just listen and compare recordings from the modern day to turn of the century and see for yourself that the art of piano playing HAS declined. The cause? Probably abunch of stuff

  • Damn hes goin apeshit

  • Remember that this version is cut

  • explain?

  • Hm. Don't you think the art of piano playing has declined since those days?

    : O)
