I love Rod. When I was in high school he sat in with a percussion ensemble I was in. At the time he was playing with the Dixie Dregs and we were all in awe of him. He was very down to earth and really seemed to enjoy sitting in with a bunch of teenage percussionists. Since then I've seen him at four clinics and have always learned something new. What a class act!
Rod is a great guy. I met him when he played Toronto in 1988 (with Winger). He invited me and my drum teacher into his dressing room and spent over 45 minutes with us. His tour manager tried to get us to leave, but Rod wanted to talk more drums.
@mapexdrums i agree with you, brother. Some people lack expertise / technique, so they feel knocking Weckl makes THEIR playing better, some how. Thanks or sticking (no pun intended) up for Dave, one of the industry's best. Rock on!
Heading home on the train from a Kiss/Winger/Slaughter show in '89 (my second concert and first of *my* choosing) I ran into Rod's wife and family also heading back home & seeing I was wearing a Winger T-Shirt were the nicest people, chatting up about Rod and the band and actually giving me a rare edition Kiss poster upon seeing how big a fan I was.
A few years later, I met Rod after RMP opened for Winger and he was just as nice... a class act all the way!
That kit sounds great.
