a 30 gallon tank with odessa barbs, black ruby barbs, 3 gold barbs, one albino rainbow shark and one plain black pleco. Plants are giant vals and one anubias batari on the driftwood. the colorful one is silk as the barbs eat any other type of plant i put in there.... they even ate the java fern!

  • Black ruby barbs! I love them! I am surprised they don't seem to be that popular! I have 6 of them in my barb tank! Hey what is the name of that long leafy plant in the background?

  • Black Rubys are beautiful... not nippy like the tigers. the plant in the background is a common giant Valnesairia. the leaves grow 6 feet or longer, and they float on the surface which blocks alot of the light but the fish love it. It's the only plant i found that the barbs did not eat!! One plant produces runners under the substrate and sooner than you think you have a whole tank full of them

  • Thanks! That is Val! Oh the leave seemed to thick! I have val but does not grow well like yours! Think I have to change the substrate.

You should try growing Java Fern. I have found that my barbs leave it alone.

  • well I had java fern and anubias as well in that tank and those darn barbs actually ate both of them. I have no idea why .... they are both "bitter" tasting plants to most fish.
