This is a song I wrote a while ago, but never recorded. When my band was still together, I sang it with my friend Lynn, and every single performance one of us would forget the words. So here they are:
I first saw Lenora after a night I spent
reading between the lines-
She slipped away as the dawn came breaking
Leaving her imprint to work through my mind.
And have you seen Lenora?
I think she disappeared from my point of view
I left her sitting on a park bench
As I painted an oval portrait of you.

She shed her skin like scales before me
To the rhythm of a siren drifted up from the shoals
I took her soul and I spread it before me
Like a raven that just flew in black from the cold.

She's being tempted by the violence of new
Held in the thrall of the vampire laughter
As I fell for an oval portrait of you.

She faded into a lyrical absence
As her song slowly wiped her eyes from my mind
She ghosted into her own little silence
As I pondered a bloodstain in five fallen lines.
And have you seen Lenora?
I left her sitting alone on the dark church pew
Counting rhinestones for her rubies
As I chased an oval portrait of you.

But the night can make for strange reflections
While the day can explain away the moon's strange fears
I turned my back on the night's full freedom
And I laughed her away as immortality neared.

I think she's seeking to find the answers in truth.
I left her on that path to sorrow
As I turned from an oval portrait of you.
