  • I would say it's (at least partly) about how the safflower petel has two colours in it, yellow and red, and with the first washing the yellow dye is being removed so the red dye can get into the cloth. I believe this is a traditional dye in Japan. : >

  • Language is not necessary to see how to handle long pieces of silk in a dye vat; it's so simple now that I see it! I could wish for English sub-titles to tell me what some of those other dyes are, and what mordants were used to get that lovely black! -- Bjo (Dyelady)
