[Please read] Sweeping, singing, cat-fighting, hero-worshipping, and ready for love: that's beautiful buxom bayou babe Melanie Barbee as played by Miss Debra Paget in dishabille in THE GAMBLER FROM NATCHEZ (1954).
Melanie is the feisty Cajun daughter of a Mississippi riverboat captain/gambler. Her hero—whose prime motive is to avenge his father's murder—is Capt. Vance Colby (Dale Robertson, most convincingly). According to one source, this film was Robertson's personal favorite.
The other woman in Vance's life is Ivette Rivage, played by pretty blonde Lisa Daniels. Fans of face-slapping, skin-biting, hair-pulling cat fighting will enjoy the fireworks between Lisa and Debra. Compare their fight with the Rhonda Fleming/Mamie Van Doren wrestling-match as shown in my YouTube video RHONDA FLEMING VS. MAMIE VAN DOREN IN MOROCCO and award your own gold and silver medals. [Side-note: Lisa Daniels portrayed a handmaiden to Debra Paget's Princess Shalimar in the film Princess of the Nile.]
GAMBLER provides excellent entertainment, with solid production values and performances across the board. In settings and style, the story is reminiscent--both for its lusty characterizations and overall flair--of the writing of gifted American author Garland Roark.
Side-note for the statistical: Debra Paget was singer/actor Elvis Presley's first leading lady in films [LOVE ME TENDER/1956].
