This has been one of the first pieces that I worked on during my first quarter here at Northwestern University. The piece is still a work in progress though, but I decided I couldn't wait any longer to show you guys this awesome piece. :D This is the second Kapustin etude I've ever played, the first one being No. 3 "Toccatina". I have been planning on making a video for that one as well... but I think I killed that piece. ;____; Maybe some time in the future....... we'll see.

But yeah, Kapustin is an amaaaazing Russian composer, except I only discovered him about a year or two ago! This is my measly attempt to educate the rest of the world about Kapustin through this video. XD

As you can see, I am a big Wong Fu Productions fan. :DDD I got this shirt in the mail today and just HAD to wear it. :) I'm also super excited for when they come visit my campus on Nov. 14!! Ahhhhhh I'm so stoked ^__^

ANYWAY, back to practicing in this quiet, lonesome practice room.

Please don't ask me for sheet music. I don't have a scanner, and I got it from a book that I bought all the way from somewhere in Europe. Yeah. Shipping was pretty costly. I'm sure if you looked hard enough somewhere on the internet, you'll find the all of Kapustin's concert etudes.

  • Hey Sherry! (this is Jason from IIYM a longggg time ago) I just discovered this piece like yesterday, and I stumbled over this! I wanna play this piece so bad, and also deciding whether to learn it now or when I go to college (I'm applying to Northwestern too!). Is this piece is hard? It seems very tiring :P

  • @dubblebubble898 Hey Jason, long time no chat! It's a pain to sightread, but it's really not that much harder than some of our standard repertoire. It would be really cool if you played it for your college auditions, the professors here knows this piece really well since I've played it for them so many times. XD Remind me what grade you're in right now? It would be so cool if you got into Northwestern!

  • Kyle has all of the Kapustin Etudes :P

  • @kylelandry Then Kyle should maybe learn one and post it on YouTube? ;)

  • @Fantasiex3 Remember I learned the first one? It seems like a pain to record Kapustin X_X

  • @kylelandry Oh, right! XD Hahah yeah it really is a pain.. -_-

  • Excellent. Handled delicately with perfect syncopated essence. Bravo. :)

  • @Mistress1657 JEALOUSY

  • Very impressive. You're an excellent player. The piece itself is reminiscent of Gershwin, with all that syncopation.
