Basic JKD Trapping

I like this trapping and it seems feasible because you have taken out most of the steps and there are no complicated combinations. Traditional trapping will likely turn into an off-balanced trapper chasing the opponents' hands while his hands are chasing your face. Not an even trade.

i think they speak for themselves, hence nobody else has mentioned them xD

I was also a night club door security and armed Guard on the south side of Prov RI....plus my days in Brooklyn...so I have seen a little bit of action. A lot of guys want to throw the big right hand bomb right out of the gate and that sets them up for high ref. point reaction drills. Obviously there are eceptions to the rule but when you train. Left and right lead then the trapping obviously can come into play no matter what lead the give you.

@RevDogo I have found it to be the opposite , and I have worked in the security/protection industry since the 90s, after military service. Six of those years working as a bouncer in a violent bar.
-
Most untrained fighters I have "sparred" with fight with right lead as well.

I understand that you are using right lead as per Bruce's defined JKD posture, BUT if you are showing transitional training to counter boxing and such the "boxer" should be in a left lead tand the jab is the left hand. Unless he is s south paw he wont be in a right lead.

@jarenas7070 There is a Jeet Kune Do book that covers trapping from the clinch position and many others. You'll find what your looking for in there. You can get it on amazon pretty cheap. Still I like this guy's way of gaining the point of reference by meeting the strike with a Simple Angle technique. I've also experimented with gaining the point of reference at a parry's point of contact; It gives you a change to do a good lop sao if you fishook the parry around the attack's wrist.

Nice vid man. I had just asked a question on JKD talk pertaining to this subject

3:24 In my JKD class we have a different counter to the uppercut, basically we counter using the same arm as our opponent (if they use their right arm to uppercut we block w/ our right arm) but the block itself is actually an uppercut against their uppercut, pushing their attack to the side slightly while we aim for their throat (works better straight hand instead of a fist). It's difficult to describe on Youtube comments though.

This great because I been boxing since I was 16 and did not know I was trapping there is alot of trapping in boxing and other arts. People just don't realize it. I wish that guy was my stifu. It would be greatly appreciated to train with someone like this guy.

@jarenas7070 There also, unfortunately, seems to be somewhat of a disdain for kung fu-like fighting styles in the UFC. Outside of Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai for striking and Wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Judo for grappling, there really isn't much variety. I believe this also leaves trapping and clinch-work largely undeveloped, being limited to knees or get the underhooks and try to body slam. I'm no expert though on the zeitgeist of Mixed Martial-Arts.
Thanks for the kind words folks I am glad you enjoy the vids..Trapping drills can help with cage fighters it builds better reflexes and timing but as for trapping in there well the double leg and single leg take down take that away ,plus other things come into play..

Yes TOWinkworthlpswith you are confused to under stand where Lee was comming from you must study the art if not its like talking about flying a plane you can know all about how it works and why it flys but to fulling understand flying you must sit in the cockpit.Ok now JKD is all ranges long and close as well as med range ,most of the damage happens up close head butts ,knees ,elbows...biting and so forth..plus most fights go to the ground anyway

Truth* ok to state a good point arm chair fighter ,trapping has saved my butt in the street but not so much in the ring for the reason of limited tools ,you cant judge food without tasting it same as fighting so before you go off and say what Bruce did or didnt seek what works for yourself and be honest is most important...listen what I say in this vid about trapping before you spout off.
