Giorgio Mura, head of technical services at Stihl tells us how his work team uses the Sonica ultrasonic cleaners.
"We normally start with the carburetor still mounted and we take off all the covers. The best thing to do is to remove the registration screws and we get to the carburetor more or less in these conditions, taking out these screws too. Obviously we turn on the heat and start the timer and we put the carburetor into the liquid. The ideal time is about 14 or 15 minutes. We can repeat it to improve the effect of the cleaning results. It clearly cleans off all the encrustations and the oxidation from the fuel, the mixture or the poor quality oils that the users sometimes use and the oxidation that forms when motors are left sitting for a long time. Once that operation is finished, we take out the carburetor - obviously we try not to touch it with our hands - and maybe we give it a little blast of compressed air and clean it with a bit of petrol, dry it and reassemble all the components. These are the simple operations you have to do to get best results."
