I'm also us a riding mower due to my having to use a wheelchair. My wheelchair is powered though.
In my case, my mower's fuel tank is under the seat so I have to transfer back to my chair to refill the tank.
I have run out of fuel on my mower once but luckily I had someone over who drove my chair to the mower.
Not all riding mowers have fuel tanks that can be accessed while seated on the mower.

you should carry a quart of reserve gas on board so when you run out of gas, just put the quart of reserve gas in the tank and go to the garage and refill your tank and your reserve, and you are good to go, i always carry a quart of reserve gas when i mow
