In 2003 Sibby LeBeau was interviewed for the Library of Congress' Veteran's History project. In part one, he speaks of his early life on the reservation and the decision to send him to "white mans school"
Sibby LeBeau is the Great Grandson of Hunkapapa Souix leader, Sitting Bull. He was raised on the Cheyenne River Reservation of South Dakota. He was chosen at an early age by the tribal Clan Mothers to be a Tribal "Rememberer". Now in his 86th winter, he works to pass along the customs and culture of his youth. Sibby is also a Veteran who served in reconaissance and underwater demolition roles. He speaks several different archaic languages and served as a "codetalker" during WWII. He is available for public appearances and research efforts.
