Who Jack Smith was is uncertain - in TV appearances an actor lip-synced whistling to a backing track. Some sources attribute the single to British Decca/Deram producer Noel Walker, as producer and performing artist, others credit John O'Neill who was an accomplished whistler -- no matter who it was, this single was a hit for him it was in 1967.
@STEVEBINNS2008 EMI knew they wouldnt have to pay royalties if the record was done by someone who technically didnt exist....whistling jack smith...so when the record got quite high in the charts my dad didnt get the kudos nor any payment, then another guylaiming to be the whistler mimed to it on tv, and he got the fame etc. there was no small print in those days so record companys took advantage.and unfortunately my dad was one of the artists that they took advantage of.
