  • Is this car in the US or Canada? It looks like it might be LHD. There doesn't seem to be as much of a following for early rotaries over there as there is, say in Australia.

Wherever it is it looks like a well sorted machine. Would you be racing SCCA (sorry not good with race categories over there) would you race against many old 240z / 260z / 280z's? wondering how the rotary goes against them :).

I have a site in progress for such cars vintagejdm (dot) com - check it out.

  • This video was taken at Rotary Revolution, in Indianapolis. There aren't very many vintage rotary cars this side of the pond. I can't say I've ever seen anything older then an RX-7 on the road, but I do know plenty of people with early RX cars. I have an RX-5 Cosmo.

  • @shiftyVL Not true. Very early 12A engines had 6MM apex seals. Later 12As ('74+ I think) have 3MM seals. All 13Bs up until '86 were 3MM as well from the factory. In '86 they went to 3 piece seals until about 2000 or so, then back to two piece. Now they are back to 3 piece. Renesis seals are 2MM. Those early 12A engines as well as earlier engines also had dual side seals. The Renesis has a 3rd oil o-ring known as the "cutoff seal" as well as keystone type side seals.

  • @aaroncake All 12a engines came standard 3mm apex's.. 13b came 2mm and people started machining the apex seats out for 3mm apex seals

  • ..ok I got a 85 with a 12A racing beat intake with a holley 500 carb, racing beat headers, electric fan and aluminum flywheel, etc... and i sent the engine to get rebuilt and i dont know exaclty what to do, what is a BP or D porting whats the difference, any subjections and what would be the hp gains?

    thanks! in advance!

  • You're right mate. Peripheral aspirated engines can barely reach 320HP. You would be very lucky to tap 275HP with a monster Bridgeport or D-port. That's aspirated. Supercharge or turbo is a whole different ball game.

  • Awesome

  • Any rotary engine builder who does porting can do a bridgeport. 3MM seals are not really require or recommended in most cases. Carbs hate bridgeports, EFI is always better.

  • DANG... where would one hypothetically get full bridgeport? And then you need 3mm seals too right? I'm assuming carbs as well...

  • A full bridge 12A should be 320 -350 HP with a good tune.
