I must admit I think you were in the wrong there. I would never, ever undertake a bus in that situation. Yes there is a cycle lane, but it is an ill advised one.
My advice is to ignore cycle lanes, they cause more problems than they solve.

One clue I find is that if you cant see the drivers face in the mirror then chances are he cant see you.

@downfader2 ha ! Doesn't matter, they'll still bully their way along ! Cyclist was stupid though, but the day a bus/lorry driver looks in the mirror and actually reacts to it by giving way (you do know what that is?) is the day my arse is displayed in Sainsburys

jeeezz!! I knew what was going to happen before I saw it. I do sympathise, but NEVER go on the inside like that - it is just too dangerous. As others have said, use cycle lanes where safe, don't just use them because you're there and you have a 'right to'....I see you don't do that any more from a post so that's good!

Agreed but it realy is maddness to pass anythhing on the inside let alone a bus
anything could make that bus move over into the cycle lane at any time
the biker should have used a bit of savvey for gooness sake its only a painted line not a steel barrier

No, he was caught out by the busses blind spot. Everyone can make a mistake and both the cyclist and the bus driver made mistakes here (cyclist already pointed out, but the driver for swinging into a clearly marked cycle lane)

Looks like the bus driver started to pull into the cycle lane for no reason. Not to drop anyone off and it was past the stopping area. Some people just drive badly.
Yes, although I still stand by my comment above, I now always cycle outside that lane as it is more of a hazard than a help.

The law is very clear on the rights of cyclists in cycle lanes as it is for vehicles on a public highway. There are no legal excuses I know of for veering into an adjacent lane without looking or indicating. The bus driver would have been well aware of the cycle lane (it runs for about 1 mile down that stretch of road). His manoeuvre was illegal - blind spot (which on busses like this one is not an issue given the cyclist's position) doesn't even come into it.

So I take it that georgethe100 never passes anything on the inside when, for instance, filtering to turn left left on a dual lane highway? After all anything could make a vehicle in the RH lane veer into your path at any time couldn't it? Oh, and that dotted line which separates the two lines, well it's not a steel barrier is it? Might just as well ignore it then......
