Werner vs. Mother Mayhem (CoH)

Werner, my Katana/Regen scrapper in City of Heroes, beating an archvillain without using inspirations, temporary powers, veteran powers, base empowerment buffs or click accolades.

I'd do pretty well, but then late in the fight, I'd just run out of everything, and she'd put me down. I had to adjust my strategy.

You see, I was using my old RWZ challenge habits for my click heals. Specifically, jump in with Instant Healing running, use Reconstruction and Moment of Glory as necessary to survive until it drops, then hit Dull Pain at the next damage spike, then ride out the rest of the fight without Instant Healing or Dull Pain.

It works great on the RWZ challenge, because I'm tailoring my healing rate to the rate of incoming damage, which is to say high at first, then decreasing over time.

That is, of course, a poor approach to AVs, since their damage stays the same. So I was starting fights strong, but getting too weak in the middle. Since I haven't played in a while, and had some initial success despite my bad approach, it took me a while to recognize the problem.

So no more Instant Healing before the fight. Instead, I'd run in raw. As I started taking damage, I'd stick with Reconstruction as long as I could. When that wasn't enough, I'd hit Dull Pain. When Dull Pain ran out, I'd stick with Reconstruction as long as I could. When that wasn't enough, I'd hit Instant Healing. I basically tried to space out the big powers so that I had an increased healing rate for most of the time, and only had short periods that I had to cover with only Reconstruction on my side. It paid off, and I managed to beat her, though only on my fifth try.

Oh, and no Moment of Glory, since it's useless against psionics. I made that mistake in the first fight. Oops. That was one death I should have seen coming.
