Vaughn Lee "Von" Smith (born June 15, 1986) is an American singer who gained some success via his YouTube videos. These garnered him national attention, which led to an appearance on The View on 27 February 2007.Soon thereafter he was offered, and eventually signed, a recording contract with Kon Live Distribution.

He auditioned for the eighth season of American Idol, and has made it through to the Hollywood rounds.

Guys, he was my youtube friend way b4 he became a phenomenon, but i havent heard of him in a while, n i knew that he was trying to get in American Idol n all. he is homeschooled, n was personally trained by his mom. so he is not like everyone else. cut him some slack, he missed out on his childhood n teenage years. at least he got a good vocal out of it. now he needs to tone down the facial expression a bit n channel that ability better, n he'll be alrite. more vids coming!!

I love how everyone is judging and criticising him like you're all experienced, signed recording artists with amazing 5 octave vocals. Ridiculous comments like "he needs to tone down his facial expressions" just goes to show how ignorant most of you are. The way you shape your mouth and face can directly affect the quality of the sound that's being produced.

Just listen to the performance and enjoy it, people. And punctuate your sentences properly.
