Motor neurons start life in the spinal cord. From the neurons long processes, called axons, develop and migrate out of the spinal cord into the surrounding tissue, where they connect with muscle cells to form neuromuscular synapses. In this video the motor neurons in a transgenic zebrafish embryo have been labelled with Green Fluorescent protein (GFP). This allows us to view the migration of the axons in live embryos and look at their behaviour in healthy animals and those that model. Find out more at www.fishforscience.com
