Close up of the 144 LED object.
PIC 16F616 chip in the middle, a few transistors, resistors, etc. to form a simple circuit. The PIC chip only has one PWM channel, yet this circuit creates 8 independent brightness levels (each circle is one group). The LED are quite bright, but this video is underexposed to show the details.

  • This is exquisite! Do you have a web page where you share how you do this? Or is it for proprietary art? I am looking for similar for some lighting, I assume you use PICs and PWM, but this is highly evolved beyond the usual. :) Lovely. You could make money selling these..they'd make -great- underwater pond or pool illuminators (assuming a good watertight casing) : )
