    The literally foundationless "gift from god" statement failed at ruining this story. Why didn't god just give the dog the "gift" of two fully formed front legs to begin with? If such a "personal" creature [god] really did exist, it would logically entail that this is actually a "curse", not a "gift". It's a good thing that humanity (and even dogs apparently) can actually triumph over god's ill-concealed mistakes. =)
