This is a terrific and exciting piece of music, similar in energy to the Symphonie Concertante by Joseph Jongen (1873-1953), another under-appreciated work.

The work as a whole is an extremely successful 'transcription' by the composer of his own 8th Sonata for organ solo.

I: Introduction et Allegro risoluto

Ian Tracey with the BBC Philharmonic orchestra under the baton of Yan Pascal Tortelier.
Recorded in the beautifully evocative acoustic of Liverpool Cathedral.

  • This a awesome. All the French composers were great. What a time to be there

and listen in that era. Thanks for posting.

  • @Psyche777able I agree. I think the acoustic of Liverpool Cathedral really works well with this music too.

  • Bravo, Bravo and again I say BRAVO!!!

  • @organistspectacular My thoughts exactly!

  • I did have the same comment/feeling as 4candles...probably just need to reword your meaning...sure would sound alot better on a proper organ.

  • @abstractviewofu ?...a proper organ...?

  • My qualifications as a critic of organs comes from over 20 years of studying, performing, traveling and playing organs on multiple continents including the organs of France...the composer composed his works for Caville-Coll organs obviously...not that you would always have a opportunity to be playing one.

  • @abstractviewofu Why is it that people who have probably never even played a great pipe organ consider themselves to be organ critics? What "proper organ" do you have in mind?

  • @MrBeethovenfan Wow. Guilmant looks exactly like my Uncle!

  • @abstractviewofu You mean nothing less than a Cavaillé-Coll, no doubt? (-:

  • May be Ian Tracey !!

  • Well, he really pulled out all the stops for this. :-D

  • Hey wow!
