Nice you went with the maple, there really nice coins because of it's purity. For some that's the reason people buy our coins. As for bars don't worry there good stiff to invest in but the only real issue with bars is if you buy stuff over 10 ounce it's hard to find buyers as there big and chunky.

The Maples are beautiful coins, but that last .0009 of purity isn't a real issue. Buy Eagles if you like, or if they're cheap, but don't discriminate just based on that last bit of purity. As for bars, oc5nsli341nforce4 is right; you could even go as high as 10 oz, if the bar is flat.
You're lucky your grandma took the time to teach you the truth about money. Hard assets never go to zero, but paper money sure does! You're way ahead of the curve.

Nice find! Don't worry about drill & fill with the silver bars unless you start to go above 5oz. The coins you need to watch out now since the silver eagles are being bootlegged like crazy now but they are easy to spot.
