Introducing Shifu Liu Wei
Shifu Liu Wei is a master of Taijiquan from Beijing.
Born on the 24th September 1967, Liu Wei was introduced, at a very young age, into the world of Taijiquan through his first master, Master Luo Dacheng. He brought out the interest from within Liu Wei who believed, as a child, that Taiji was only for the elderly.
However it was his second Master, Grandmaster Li Bingci, the 4th descendent of Wu style Taijiquan, who moulded him, through the use of an extremely rigorous training regime, into a nine-time National Champion of competitive Taijiquan in Wu Style.
Grandmaster Li Jing Wu (1913-1997), renowned for his mastery of Chen, Yang, Wu and Sun styles, continued to mentor him and refine his technique. And Master Wang Shixiang entrusted him with the unique techniques of Xiyiquan and Baquazhang.
Also proficient in the practise of "Push Hand"," Animal Imitation Boxing" and weapons, shiifu Liu Wei has won a total of 34 gold medals in competitions both domestic and international. His level of Wu Style Taijiquan has been recognized as the official standard in China.
As a decorated professional martial artist, he has been awarded Dan 7 and the title of Champion Sportsman of China.
Nowadays, Shifu Liu Wei teaches martial arts and taijiquan in Beijing. He also works as a qualified umpire/referee for competitions at home and abroad. He also presides, as an adjudicator, over the national the grading system and has travelled to Japan, Singapore and Australia on exchange programmes.
