  • Long live Rome!!!

nothing is free something somewhere costs money...slaves still need to eat and be clothed...not to mention the inital cost of buying the slave and if the slave got injured or killed then the slave would need to be replaced with another slave...driving up the cost...supply and demand. and think of craftsmen more like contractors. you would have to pay them by the job (i.e. per statue, per column etc.) and the finest craftsmen demanded the highest rates..

  • @LaserBeam002 These engineering projects cost money, because artisans and engineers don't work for free. I can't imagine a slave artisan. The upkeep would cost a lot of money as well.

  • @Mojorizzon84 Such a comment, coming as it does from some greasy little knuckle-dragger who can't spell, speaks volumes, but not about myself.

  • @gsmonks wow ur a fukn idiot

  • Italian? There were no Italians in those days!

  • Hail Trajan!

  • Ok, If Rome controlled the areas where stone was quarried....and they had all these slaves to do the work for free.....and the emperor or senate could order the people to do all this work....then why did they need so much money to build something??? Slaves could quarry the stone...slaves could transport the stone....they could order the craftsmen to work for free or near free.

  • Trajan's one of my fave emperors, plus I identify with him.
