I approached making this video from the perspective that I'd only seen the film itself once, but I was so blown away by the performances of James Spader (Graham) and Andie MacDowell (Ann) that making a music video has played on my mind ever since. In her review for Amazon, Spader fan Radiant Rose comments at length on the strengths of this film and I agree wholeheartedly with what she says. What does it for me about SLV is the beautiful cinematography - the camera is used caressingly, in shots that linger on the principals' faces, catch every nuance of expression and emotion. In actual fact, it was very easy to make this music video because of that - I didn't have to slow down any but one of the clips, and the wonderfully lyrical lovemaking scenes between Spader and MacDowell play out themselves to the soundtrack with very little coaxing from me!

I know I'm rambling on a bit on this one, but I wanted to, in a sense, justify the making of this video - there are parts of it that are long; shots that linger a little after the lyric or beat, and this is because I didn't want to start messing with what is a beautifully shot film by putting in cuts that might ruin the flow. So I'm not sure if it's cut to lyrics or beat this time, or emotion! The song is stunning - Brian Ferry is raw, and the piano riff was what got me wanting to use it in a songvid. I realise as well that this is a very conventional love song that provides the backing track to an unconventional affair - I know I've shamelessly romanticised the core relationship, but once I started, I just couldn't stop! I wanted, if it doesn't sound too pretentious, to make something beautiful with this one - I hope I have!

  • Touched by the care too.

  • Thanks so much :) I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)

  • I'm touched by the care you put into making this video. Both Jimmy and Andie have an angelic glow in this climax scene when Ann reaches out to Graham.

  • Thanks so much for commenting on my SLV video - it's lovely to know that it works as a piece :) One of the things I loved about the film itself was the wonderful camerawork focussing on James and Andie :)

  • My previous comment was in reply to yaknowitnow's question. The 'reply' feature doesn't seem to be working right.

Anyhow, it's a really multifaceted movie, and one of my favourites. Spader is mesmerizing!

  • He is, isn't he? This is definitely one of his best performances, and a terrific film to boot.

  • Fantastic film.......James Spader is a superb actor who is very underrated...

  • What a great video dedicated to one of the best movies ever. James Spader is absolutely mesmerizing as Graham. Coming to think of it, James Spader is just mesmerizing. Can not think of another actor that would have been so right for this sensitive role.

I love the way Graham stroke her arm.

  • I am very flattered to find my review of the film being praised. I had the good fortune to meet someone online who met James Spader in person and at her request he said, "Hallo, Radiant Rose" on camera. Youtube doesn't seem to want the link in its comment, but if you google "youtube doktormom Spader For Rose" it should come up.

  • wow this song goes really well with the clips. i love that film too, and i am also a fan of roxy music, and Bryan Ferry solo : )

  • I want James Spader to video me.

  • Love it! One of the best movies I've ever seen.I also was totally amazed of their playing and the dialogues. Perfect video!
