James Burton is a legend. He has played behind Ricky Nelson and Elvis Presley among others. In 1965 he was trying to start a solo career, and it starts here with this early release, Love Lost. The flipside is a fuzz killer, Jimmy's Blues, but this side is fantastic as well. Most people have never heard this record or even know it exists, so enjoy this rare early James Burton record, while he was still being called Jimmy. You can hear great records like this one live every night on www.topshelfoldies.com!

  • Thought I was the only one who had this record

  • I first heard this song through a friends show on the same internet radio station i do shows on. Before i moved out of state (2 years ago), he brought the disc over to my folk's house and let me record it to my computer so I could have a copy of it, and i decided i wanted my own copy of the disc, so lots of ebay bidding later the copy seen in the video above came into my posession. Worth every penny of the $30 i spent on it! So at least three other copies are out there (i was outbid on one too).

  • Thank you for uploading this!! I've been after this for a long time. Is there any chance that you could upload the B-Side: Jimmy's Blues? It's a shame that James only recorded a few insto's. Swamp Surfer is a good one as well.

  • I can upload the flip but i need to find out which box i've filed the record away in, again.... ive got dozens of boxes, thousands of records, surrounding me...ill never get em all up on ebay but ill always get the best ones up as i come across them!

  • He did this on Shindig. I know I have it somewhere, maybe I'll try to find it and upload it sometime soon.

  • Someone else mentioned that to me in the past.... it certainly would be a neat clip to see... but i'd rather see him play the flipside!

  • i had no idea he did this little solo record. cause in the 60's he did the duet album with ralph mooney which had 12 or so songs and then his 1971 self album which was a bunch of elvis and misc. songs.

  • James Burton was a HUGE influence on many guitarists. He was and still is great. I remember him on the "Ricky Nelson show. I couldnt belieue what he was playing back then. He still is in my heart as a great inouator....I loue Jim Burton almost as much as I loue Keith Richards... may his music last foreuer...I will neuer forget reading about how he came into the studio using an unwound "G" string. I didnt know about this stuff till much later......

  • Ok, this tune is amazing. Never heard it before, but I'm definitely adding it to my favorites. Just wow....

  • I was lucky I paid $5.00 for my copy back in 1997. Like a 2 minute solo on a Ricky Nelson record

  • i love maj 7th chords

  • veefan, do it!! I've been wanting to see this again since seeing it on Shindig. I did finally find a copy of this 45 about 15 yrs. ago; it's a beauty...
