Take a turquoise-obsessed collector, a worn-out 80's kitchen, 1600 pounds of vintage GE appliances, combine and Voila! A modern kitchen with a retro look and feel AND four very unique 1956 major appliances is the result!

  • The Washer/Dryer set are those back in working order after you got the dryer part fixed?

  • Alas, the dryer function is still not working on this combo. I am planning on taking another look at this after the holidays. Problem is that I still don't have the wiring diagram for this particular machine...

  • On the washer part where does the soap go? is there a certain place to put it or does it go in like a regular top load machine?

  • I have just been putting it into the drum with the clothes. Later models (1958 and up) featured dispensers for detergent, bleach, and fabric softener - a huge improvement!

  • WOW ! I have wall mounted fridge envy. Amazing kitchen. Congratulations !!

  • My Dad REFUSED to have me be a housewife, so in school...1962, so he made me take wood shop! Ha ha..what a reversal!...and I did envy those pretty kitchens when I peeked in.

  • I love it!...you guys did a great job! Thanks for sharing.

  • GREAT job on this slide show progression Paul! Can't remember watching it before, but VERY NICE!

  • What model is the electrolux? That's the one my neighbor had when I was a child, and I coveted it something awful.

  • @jdollinter This comment made me roar with laughter. My jr. high had HIMA: Home ec, Industrial arts, Music, and Art by respective quarters. I BUSTED MY HUMP to do well in Home Ec, Learned to cook, learned to sew...and got grief for being the only boy to get an A... But industrial arts, which had a really tough teacher, I was the ONLY STUDENT to get an A (only because I went after school every day to do extra work).

  • It reminds me of the great kitchens we had in Home Ec in 1970, my school had all these great late 50's kitchens with matching GE colored appliances, one kitchen was pink and another was turquoise. It was the first time the school gave the boys this class and the girls Wood Shop. Needless to say I was hopeless on the sewing machine but the kitchens were heavenly.

  • This is AWSOME! Great job!

  • Gorgeous! Thanks for preserving all this great stuff.
