This is a "how to" for the Evo brake swap onto a second generation turbo DSM. It can be completed on a GST as well as a GSX, but the difference between the GST and GSX, while small, can cause the swap to go differently. That includes the Brake Fluid Reservoir, brake line differences, and other things I might not have knowledge of.

Please view DSMtuners.com and search the forums for "Evo Brake Swap Checklist" by Atuca for more information. Asking questions about the swap will not be answered by me here on youtube if they have been answered there.

The swap was completed on my car, by me, and the knowledge here is of the best of my ability. I have double and tripple checked the information here for integrity, but I can't promise anything.

  • what chassis or year of JDM galant knuckle do you need to do this??

  • @gsxtc1 Its been a while since i looked up the year and model, but at the 1:00 min mark on the video, its the knuckle on the far right, titled "Galant EA5A, EA6A" which I would assume to be the corresponding chassis model.

  • How much did those "jdm" galant knuckles cost. I think i would rather use the whole new Knuckle option rather than using the brackets and grinding.

  • I agree, I think the new adapter idea is kinda.. rigged? I understand the use of adapters, but when you can use a "stock"ish knuckle to begin with, I'd much rather go the cleaner route.

However, the reason the adapters are made is quiet clear, these knuckles are hard to get, and not cheap. I paid 400 bucks for them, and 100 shipping.

Finding someone from JDM land to grab them for you is hard as well, it is (as far as any DSMer knows) impossible to import them through any mitsubishi dealer.

  • did you have a problem with the master cylinder being over worked,,,

  • I didn't run into any problems with a GSX master cylinder; the gst is smaller though by an 1/8 of an inch. I think it went:

    GST: 7/8th inch

    GSX: 1 inch

    EVO: 1 1/8th inch

Swapping the evo would be ideal, but no one has figured out a way to swap it in yet. Mathematicly; more surface area to move fluid SHOULD yield better results (and better brake feel), but until I swap in some racing pads and really race this setup, I won't know its limits.
