do you know how many demos are made before a song is out? Dozens!!! This is just another demo not the only demo!!!

this is how phil writes his melodies and lyrics. he will hum out the la la la's on a live take recording, find a catchy part (let it run free) and then go back, listen a few times and then make up some lyrics that make sense. this was probably one that he couldn't really find a great way to make it all fit together (without spending a lifetime on it). that's gotta be why he finds so many hits, because of this process. this is also how genesis writes....at least in the post-gabriel years.
