@SPJ1993343 You are correct sir. And I'm glad you addressed it. The worst part is that people point to this game and say: "This is what happens when Objectivism is implemented!"

@N0hN4me I think it is. If it's truly a Randian society, then there SHOULD be a government. But it would be limited, to prevent the outbreak of chaos. For everyone's protection, and to protect Life, Liberty, Property and the Pursuit of happiness, we give the gov a legal monopoly of force. (Which is why then have democracy, to make sure it's as hard as possible for the Gov to use that force).
But Rapture seem more like pure anarchy. In which I think such actions would be typical.

It was actually Ryan's betrayal of his ideals is what let Rapture fail. When he saw that Fontaine had a possibility of becoming greater than him, he couldn't take it. He saw it as HIS city after all. And so he intervened. He labeled Fontaine as a thug, he banned exporting. He drove Fontaine to create a weapon out of ADAM and then he "killed" Fontaine. He nationalized industries. Finally, he destroyed the Free Market. And Rapture fell with it.

Rapture died because of human curiosity and small size. Toddlers who discover the word yes and no find they can get odd reactions when they're used repeatedly. Children learn they can curse without fear when they say them around other people, so they do so obnoxiously. Adults learn in Rapture they can do what they want AND what they weren't allowed to before, so they do bad things without purpose just so they can explore the extent of their freedom. The sky's the limit...size was Rapture's sky.

@veba5Yeah rapture is way better than USA, the other day I was attacked by a gibbering madman shooting fire from his hands on the way to the cash machine and I though how awful it was that I had to pay taxes.
