Is luck random? In 1995 a homeless man nicknamed Shoeless Joe walks into the Treasure Island casino and plays an atrocious game of Blackjack using $400 from his social security check. He stuns casino employees and patrons with win after win. He wins $1.6m by that weekend! In 1993, a woman named Sheila King caps an extraordinary winning streak of several hundred thousand dollars playing slot machines for a few days with a mega $1.3m win on a single day. What makes people have these extraordinary lucky streaks? Can this be reproduced? Do we have any control at all over how lucky we get?
