My first unboxing video! (Sorry for the poor rendering, new to video editing/YouTube). System ordered on 27/08/09, arrived on 09/09/09. Paid £1199 including tax and delivery - there was a £400 discount scheme offered by Dell for this system at the time of ordering; there are still some major discounts on their site.

Specs:

2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 Processor
4GB DDR3 RAM
500 GB 7200rpm Hard Drive
BD-ROM/DVD+/-RW Combo Drive (slot loading)
Full HD 1920x1080 RGBLED 16" Screen
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 1GB Graphics Card
Integrated WiFi/Bluetooth
Integrated DVB TV Tuner
Windows Vista Home 64bit (with Windows 7 Upgrade)

Leave comments if you have any questions or want more information and I'll answer them as soon as I can. Regarding the protrusion in the casing, I decided in the end that it didn't bother me that much and I don't think it'll be a problem; I especially didn't want to wait for Dell to send me a new laptop. Also, I now think it's unrelated to the battery being a bit loose, although I'm not sure if that's a problem that others have been experiencing.

  • I heard a few days ago that dell is going to offer core i7 on the dell studio xps 16. do you know if that's true?

  • They're certainly not offering it yet (in UK or USA), although I have seen this on a forum thread somewhere as well; the consensus on that thread was that the image of the tech specs with i7 on it had been manipulated. If it's true, Dell are certainly keeping it quiet, they're usually good about announcing this stuff.

  • Good date on receiving the laptop on 09/09/09 :D

  • 3/2s the devil :)

  • How is the perforance of this laptop? Does it get hot like most reviews mention?

  • The performance has been very good so far. Its not bad on the heat. Of the three internal sensors two report under 50 and one in the mid 70s after heavy gaming/processing. Externally, it doesn't feel uncomfortable at all when on a table and your palms are resting on it. However I've mostly been using Ubuntu Linux on it so far. My complete review should be up in the next week or so and I'll go into more detail there.

  • very nice i'm getting one in 2 weeks. How do you like your keyboard, do the keys stick? another question how thick is the back of the laptop with the lid close by the leather..is it 1.3 inches?

  • sabes el precio de la laptop

  • the only thing it misses is the number pad... after that a true piece of art

  • @AnupamDoesUToob They already offered it...:D

  • defo gettin one

  • and Windows 7

  • Ive just ordered the i7 1.73ghz model with RGBLED screen from Dell UK, due the 30th i cant wait! seen many reviews, good unboxing

  • I just ordered one, however i've ordered one with the i7 model, I really wanted RGBLED but it wasn't a selectable option -- does that require more power or something, why is it an omitted option?

  • I love the massive ones
