Sparked by the arrests of 1,253 non-violent protesters outside the White House in August, 2011, a vast grassroots campaign ignited and brought together people and environmental organizations from across the continent to fight the proposed Tar Sands Keystone XL Pipeline. On November 6, 2011, over 10,000 protesters surrounded the White House to urge the President to stand up to the oil industry and stop the pipeline.

  • Amazing. In Australia, we have a lot of work to do to achieve a clean energy future too. But this goes to show that nonviolent grassroots movements can achieve great things in any democracy. Things like this are so beautiful that you can't help but wonder whether the dire circumstances that call us to action might just be worth it.

Well done. Our cause is international, and I can think of few things more worthy to unite the world.

  • @Gwhat1935

An overall more sustainable world is more important than our current economy. And its a pipe, with maybe a couple hundred jobs maintaining it. What about plants building wind turbines that would employ a couple hundred people. Then the outcome of that would be an increase of renewable energies in our country, rather than more dependence on oil and other countries.

  • Do you realize the economy right now?

You can't continue to subsidize and research green technologies without real money and commodities continuing to flow.

USA is in debt to countries all over the world. You need things like this from your only close friend and ally.

  • Man, I wouldn't mind 99c a gallon lol

  • great video but i have to notice the speakers are almost entirely men

    ...

  • Amazing! I wish I had been there. You are the future! Obama, do the right thing!!!

  • Perhaps... with such successes.. we may see a better world.

    stop the wars now please.

America unite to feed the world.... not kill it.

    well done.
