@jackskellingtonsora after checking the Hebrew wikipedia - you're actually right. 45% are non-religious, 55% are traditional and the rest are ultra-Orthodox.

so it's almost half and not most.

we have poor propaganda, and that's why people know what they know about Israel only from TV, which is of course mainly bad things.

that's the beauty of Israel (in my opinion). on one hand we do have that sector of orthodox citizens who are conservative, but on the other hand, many people don't know that most of the population are secular.

our television, for instance, is more daring and less censored than that in the US, and in general we are very open minded and liberal.

maybe it's our location...because we're the only democratic country in the region.

Israel has quite the reputation for being a conservative state, to a fault, in fact. This is, of course, because of it's very Jewish fundamentalist slant. That is, at least, how my corner of the world perceives it.
