@sygo7g I recommend the 2006 Kaiketsu Zorori movie. its humor has a more distanced and self-aware, almost self-parodying tone to it but it still has that "wacky fun cartoony children's film" feel and it's very creative and charming. plus the climax has a lot of Kanada-style animation in it, by Keisuke Watabe and Akira Amemiya no less.

plus I love the simple and cute cartoon designs it has, similar to a lot of 70s anime they burn themselves into your mind easier due to their simplicity

@sygo7g Dead Leaves and Panty & Stocking are similar but people seem to misunderstand the latter and think the references and innuendo-filled dialogue are the meat of the show (I even know people who say "I love the humor but the animation is awful" which just seems like having extremely low standards to me)

Animal Treasure Island (1971, made by people who later formed Ghibli) had a similar "don't give a damn let's just have fun animating" feel to it, there's little logic to it but it's so fun

@sygo7g well honestly the end was pretty stupid, it felt like they just animated themselves into a corner (it was blatant that this was an animator-driven movie) so they just thought "yeah we can't really give this an amazingly epic finale without running out of budget so THEY ALL MOVE TO A DIFFERENT PLANE OF EXISTENCE (WITH FRUIT IN THE BACKGROUND)"

still I think this movie doesn't deserve any of the intense seething hatred it gets, it's clearly just animation porn and should be judged as such

@sygo7g I had a stupid e-feud with Daryl over that review and what they said about Kanada after he died (which I still think was very disrespectful) and now every AWO fan hates me for it (except one guy said he agreed with me after I apologized for acting like a dick), and I feel sorry because if I didn't just act all condescending I might have changed their mind about it. instead he will now bash Birth and Dead Leaves with every given opportunity just to spite me so I've just done more damage.
