Allons enfants de la Patrie,
Arise, children of the Fatherland,
Le jour de gloire est arrivé !
The day of glory has arrived!

Contre nous de la tyrannie,
Against us the tyranny's
L'étendard sanglant est levé, (bis)
The bloodied banner is raised, (repeat)

Entendez-vous dans les campagnes
Do you hear in the countryside
Mugir ces féroces soldats ?
To roar those ferocious soldiers?

Ils viennent jusque dans nos bras
They come right here into our arms
Égorger nos fils, nos compagnes !
To slaughter our sons, our wives!

Aux armes, citoyens,
To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons !
Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur
May a tainted blood
Abreuve nos sillons !
Drench our furrows!

Aux armes, citoyens,
To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons !
Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur
May a tainted blood
Abreuve nos sillons !
Drench our furrows!

Français, en guerriers magnanimes,
Frenchmen, as magnanimous warriors,
Portez ou retenez vos coups !
Bear or hold back your blows!

Épargnez ces tristes victimes,
Spare these sad victims,
À regret s'armant contre nous. (bis)
Armed against us against their will. (repeat)

Mais ces despotes sanguinaires,
But not these blood-thirsty despots,
Mais ces complices de Bouillé,
These accomplices of Bouillé,

Tous ces tigres qui, sans pitié,
All these tigers who mercilessly
Déchirent le sein de leur mère !
Ripped out their mother's breast!

Aux armes, citoyens,
To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons !
Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur
May a tainted blood
Abreuve nos sillons !
Drench our furrows!

Aux armes, citoyens,
To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons !
Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur
May a tainted blood
Abreuve nos sillons !
Drench our furrows!

Amour sacré de la Patrie,
Sacred patriotic love,
Conduis, soutiens nos bras vengeurs
Lead and support our avenging arms

Liberté, Liberté chérie,
Liberty, cherished liberty,
Combats avec tes défenseurs ! (bis)
Fight back with your defenders! (repeat)

Sous nos drapeaux que la victoire
Under our flags, let victory
Accoure à tes mâles accents,
Hurry to your manly tone,

Que tes ennemis expirants
So that your enemies, in their last breath,
Voient ton triomphe et notre gloire !
See your triumph and our glory!

Aux armes, citoyens...
To arms, citizens...
Aux armes, citoyens,
To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons !
Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur
May a tainted blood
Abreuve nos sillons !
Drench our furrows!

Aux armes, citoyens,
To arms, citizens,
Formez vos bataillons,
Form your battalions,
Marchons, marchons !
Let's march, let's march!
Qu'un sang impur
May a tainted blood
Abreuve nos sillons !
Drench our furrows

  • The bit where it says 'egorger vos fils, vos compagnes'....the 'vos' should actually be 'nos'...which means 'our', not 'your'.

  • Thanks a million - Will work on that now = ).

  • No, 'nos' and 'nous' and 'vos' and 'vous' mean different things. 'Nos' and 'vos' are forms of 'notre' and 'votre'.

    Nos = our

    Nous = we

    Vos = your

    Vous = you

  • Hello!

Bouille was a french aristocrat generaI in the army who went on the king's side and then had to escape and fight against the French, that is why he is the "traitor "in the song

  • Wherever mankind fights for God given liberties, let their ranks sing this tune!

  • Cher Mireille,

Nous te souhaitons bon anniversaire, nous te souhaitons une bonne santé, les joies, le bonheur, nous t'aimons.

    Tes admirateurs russes.

  • It may make the US anthem look peace loving in comparison, but this is the most rousing anthem, rivaled only by the Russian one.

  • @plusplusplusplusp Mireille performed this often, but this one was at the Eiffel Tower in 1981. She has had a long and illustrous career, singing in numerous languages including her beloved French. She is from Avignon, France. Just type in her name her at youtube, and you will find many of her songs. ENJOY!

  • @GirlAmebaPico

It sounds like her (the singer of the creepymusic in Inception), but I think this was sung by Mireille Mathieu (whoever that is).

  • Mireille Mathieu is the best singer.
