UCLA Chemistry 14D: Prince of O-Chem

In Young Hall, South Campus born and raised
In the chem lab was where I spent most of my days
Chillin' out maxin' relaxin' all cool
And all shootin some iron outside of the tube
When a couple of halogens
Who were up to no good
Startin catalyzing in my fume hood
I picked up one little bromine and Friedel rapped hey
he said "You're alkylatin' with Crafts up at UCLA!"

I begged and pleaded with him day after day
But he packed AlCl3 and sent me on my way
he gave me a methyl and then he gave me another.
I put on my alkyls and said, "Garg I feel smothered!"

Polyalkylation, yo this is bad
Maybe I should aclyate out of this chem class?
Is this what the benzenes of O-chem living like?
Hmmmmm this might be alright.

But wait, I hear there are two more additions.
Are these the type of subs we want for this mission?
Sulfur and Nitrogen
I'll see when I get 'em
I hope they're prepared for the Prince of O-Chem

Well uh, they landed meta all over my ring
There were some groups doing some electron withdrawing
Ain't gettin' deactivated yet,
I just got here!
I sprang with the quickness, like lightening disappeared

I whistled for an alkyl and when it came near
The donating group was an activator.
If anything I can say is that this sub was strong,
Ortho or Para "Man neither is wrong!"

I pulled up to the Young at CS50
And I yelled to the class "Yo, don't be hater!"
I looked to my kingdom
I was finally done
with Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution
