MPD Psycho
year: 2000
director: takashi miike (ichi the killer, imprint)
stars: ren osugi (audition, train man), chiaki kuriyama (kill bill, battle royale)

Here is the review that was selected from the readers of tokyoswan.blogspot.com! Based on the shocking manga, this tv mini series comes to us from takashi miike, the mastermind behind audition and ichi the killer. And while it lacks the punch of the manga, it offers up a fun viewing experience. Hope you enjoy the multiple personality detective!

  • I got sucked into your reviews about three months ago. I watched "Infection"(which I really enjoyed) and "Maerebito" because of your reviews. If I may, I'd like to request a review of "Kwaidan" one of the first and in my opinion finest Japanese horror anthology films-I'm surprised it's not here. I think it was made in 1967-1968. George Romero ripped off the Ice Ghost sequence in his anthology film "Tales From the Dark Side."

    Keep it up! Thanks

  • yeah, that is a real classic. i watched the dvd about 2 years ago, I would highly recommend it to everyone.

  • I really enjoy your reviews. They seem well thought out and objective as opposed to many other reviews on YouTube. I wish you'd branch out to more genres than just japanese horrer, but whatever floats your boat (:. Do you have any kind of education in movies?

  • nothing formal, I've just been an avid collector for many years and I'm interested in always knowing who the director is, the actors, etc. There are some great Japanese films outside the horror genre that I would be interested in reviewing, so that is certainly a possibility.

  • nice vid, has the series ended after the first box set, or are they still coming out with new ones

  • the complete series is contained in the boxset.

  • Awesome review, but I'm reading the manga at the moment, I'm upto volume 5, and ive been thinking about buying thr box set, so is the ending completely different from the manga?

  • Plant Heads? Flower Children is more catchy. It sounds so innocent and peaceful...

This has begun to be translated into English, please support it and let the companies know people want to read horror manga and buy it. Be a dedicated fan and support your art form. There are currently volumes for sale to buy in the U.S.

  • @Draculoid

It's not carried in stores much, it's always shit like Naruto and Dragon Ball Z that takes up the shelf space, doing not much more. It's hard to find the releases of horror or lesser known mangas because they are usually not stocked to begin with...and hence the lower sales...hence the being put on hold. At least it's not cancelled yet and I would recommend looking online for some fan translations of non U.S. releases, you could easily find these I would think.
